Sourcing Materials For Our Products

May 6, 2020

At Seal Master, our custom-engineered and manufactured products are much more than simple rubber extrusions. Our seals utilize a variety of elastomers and fabrics to create custom products that meet the unique performance requirements for our customers’ applications. So how do we choose the materials we’ll use in each product? It is largely dependent on the application’s geometrical and environmental challenges.

Typical Materials

Our team uses several different fabrics and elastomers to ensure the strength, durability, and shape retention of our seals. For fabrics, we typically use Dacron Kevlar®, Nomex®, or Nylon. We also use a wide variety of elastomers based on the environmental requirements of the project. Some of the elastomers we use include natural rubber, butyl, silicone, polyurethane, and ethylene propylene.

The Environment of the Completed Application

You don’t have to worry about determining which materials will work best for your application. Our engineers will question you about the proposed application and environment you have planned for the inflatable seals. Your specifications allow us to determine which fabrics and elastomers will best meet your needs, as well as account for other concerns, such as the hardness of the rubber compound. This way, finding the right materials for the application ultimately becomes a collaborative effort between our engineers and the customer.

By fully considering each application’s geometrical and environmental requirements, our team is able to consistently produce inflatable seals that exceed our clients’ expectations. Contact us today to learn more about what we can do for you, and we’ll choose the right materials for your application requirements.
